Maintenance Capability Uplift For a National Retail Distribution

A major UK retailer operating a high-throughput distribution campus asked MCP to strengthen maintenance capability across its engineering function.

Around 90 technicians, supported by a 30-strong days team including five Asset Managers, were working mainly in reactive mode and handling most of the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks. Although the site’s Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Power BI tools supported asset tracking and reporting, inconsistent data standards and user behaviours limited their value for planning and improvement.

The operation relies on a single-track overhead conveyor system moving hanging garments to a pack-and-post facility. Any breakdown causes immediate disruption, so maintenance teams carry out rigorous PPMs, such as regular inspections and replacement of worn clothes hanger rollers, to maintain reliability and minimise costly delays.
